So you're interested in my technical writing frame of mind... Well, I've been a Technical Writer for more years than I sometimes care to admit, but I've always tried to do new and interesting projects. Part of what I think keeps a Technical Writer marketable is the ability to 1) keep up with new tools and techniques in the industry, and 2) learn and write about as many hardware and software technologies as possible over the course of your career. And, although every project is different, I think it is important to use and understand the product you're writing about on your own as a writer/user, instead of having the content fed to you so you can simply edit it. Simply put, you get better documentation that way. |
